Challenge

In the aggregate industry, market demands for quality are becoming increasingly stringent. Processors must now achieve higher standards for both throughput and precision in the sorting process – a combination that traditional equipment struggles to deliver.

Pebbles present a particularly difficult sorting challenge. Their natural colors are very similar to common impurities such as yellow granite and red granite, making them notoriously difficult to distinguish with conventional optical systems. Without precise identification, these impurities can compromise the final product quality and reduce its market value.

To meet these rising standards, Wannian County Pucheng New Materials Co., Ltd. needed a sorting solution capable of handling three different size ranges simultaneously, while maintaining exceptional accuracy and significantly improving production efficiency.


Solution

AMD® deployed four KGS5 (KP) color sorters in a dedicated sorting line, each configured to process pebbles across three distinct size fractions:

0.8 – 1.8 cm(Small)

1.8 – 2.5 cm(Medium)

2.5 – 3.6 cm(Large)

The KGS5 (KP) is equipped with high-definition image recognition and advanced deep learning algorithms, enabling it to precisely capture subtle differences in both color and texture between pebbles and impurities. This advanced recognition capability significantly reduces the rate of misclassification, ensuring that yellow and red granite particles are reliably removed at each size tier.

Each sorter features a high-capacity vibratory feeder that boosts overall throughput by20%–30%, directly addressing the customer’s productivity goals. The optimized belt design and anti-splash configuration ensure stable, reliable operation even when handling spherical materials that tend to roll or shift during processing.

Proprietary ejector valves are fine-tuned for each size fraction:

  • Small-size finished product and reject – fast response, low energy consumption, precise impurity rejection
  • Medium-size finished product and reject
  • Large-size finished product and reject
